interrupting #12daysofavo for a special announcement !!
puffy eyed from happy tears + feeling full hearted - I’m officially a RYT200 🙏🏼
the purpose of @avoyoudidnt was to share my health + wellness journey and as an aspiring yoga teacher, I look forward to intermittently sharing snapshots of this new chapter. namaste 💛
Dear yogis, today I would like you to think about what would you say if God were to suddenly appear in front of you and ask you the question : "Would you like to have a long life?" Of course, I am sure your answer would be "Yes". However if the next question would be "What will you do to make your life longer?" What answer will you give ?
I am sure that we would all like to have a long life in order to fulfill all our desires. However I think that even if we were to live 2,000 or 3,000 years it would still not be enough to complete them all ! With every moment that passes it seems that our desires just keep multiplying.
Probably the best way to fulfill our desires is simply to try to reduce them. If we start to live our lives with this point of view there is a possibility that we may complete them even in this one lifetime.
Dear yogis, if you have to go on a trip for one day, it may be possible to prepare for your journey in just one hour. If your trip will last for 3 days it may take two or three hours for preparation. If the trip is for one week then maybe 4-5 hours and so on.However if your trip will last for two months in a foreign country it may take as much as 15-30 days to prepare as you will need to book the ticket, search for hotels, Visas, packing and so on.
If I ask you why do you need such a long time to prepare for your two months stay and only one hour for the shorter one you would tell me that a long journey needs lots of preparation and a short journey less. This is very true and necessary. Simply put if you want to stay on this Earth for a long time and have a long life you will have to do a lot of preparation.
as i sit back & reflect on 2018 highlights (btw how the heck is it already 12/16?!), yoga teacher training immediately comes to mind. so, a few months later, i finally recapped the life-changing experience on the blog - all the deets on the program, my experience, why i did it and what’s next 🙏🏻✨ LINK IN BIO for the new post! // questions still? ask away!
I use my Sundays to gauge where my head is at, and as of late, every Sunday it feels like I’ve entered a completely different realm than the one before. And I don’t even have time to assess it, because before I know it, it’s Sunday again.
I’m taking this as a sign to just go with the flow. I can try and fight the current, overthink every change until I drown, or I can just take advantage of this opportunity to live presently & ride the waves as they come. I’m more curious than anything.
I’m back in the studio and preparing some new adventures for 2019 classes. Keep a look out @higherhealthyoga schedule for me and at the new studio opening early winter 2019. It’s been a wild year and I’m happy to share my practice with you! Thank you each and every student, teacher and mentor. A huge shout out to @inbalanceforlife@pattiedwyer for training me, guiding me and always supporting the journey. Nearly 5 years as a RYT and it keeps getting better 🖤🎄#grateful#ryt200#teacher#yoga#bend#higherhealth
Never let anyone, even Doctors tell you what you can or cannot do. Throughout the past two and a half years after my lumbar spine surgery years I have embarked on quite a healing journey. I began to have a relationship ship with my body, instead of just body awareness. I enrolled in yoga teacher training at Spirit of Yoga, Southwest Institute of Healing Arts ' s yoga school. I quickly realized that this was what I was made to do. So I enrolled in the advanced yoga teacher training (800 hours of training) only a few months into my YTT200.
Through YTT and exploring other holistic modalities, Istarted to understand my limitations and push past many of my fears and things that others told me were my truth. Just this Wednesday I had another breakthrough as I went upsidedown and did many supported inversions that I haven't been able to for years and years (prior to my back injury 4.5 years ago). I'm living proof that yoga can heal so much more than just your body. I'm beyond grateful for this journey and I'm so grateful I get to do this "work" (doesn't feel like work) and help others along their exploration and journey to their true self.
Even though labor pain is by far the worst pain I have ever experienced in my entire life, I still am deathly afraid of needles ie site changes and sensor changes. Luckily, it’s quick it takes less than 5 minutes especially with a newborn who’s definitely a momma’s boy! But, you do what you gotta do to keep taking care of YOU so you can take care of your loved ones - my beautiful baby boy in my case! #worthit
Another #foodie post! Caribbean stir fry with leftover lemon peanut chili rice😍
Teaching yoga is deep service. Yoga teachers make a lamp of themselves and illuminate the hearts of all beings. (Sumukhi)
I learned today that I make a little "mmm" noise when I teach ♡ Without even realizing it, I have been expressing how much joy and happiness sharing yoga brings me. I'm so happy to be a part of @remedyeleven, the people who make up the wonderful commUNITY there are so full of love and light. I hope that I give back one tenth of what they give me! ♡

santosa, or contentment, is one of the five niyamas, the second of the eight limbs of yoga describing the practice of self discipline. -
practicing contentment doesn't mean you have to settle for the bullshit and not have standards for yourself. practicing contentment is about appreciating your past instead of dwelling over it. practicing contentment is about enjoying where you are at in the moment. practicing contentment is recognizing today as a step towards the future, rather than another day you haven't yet reached your goal, or miss the mark. embrace the mistakes and keep moving forward.
appreciate your past, acknowledge your future, and be content with the now. and in the words of the great trey anastasio:
so why not be like me? be proud of all your crimes, cause when i screw up once, i do it two more times! -
you got one life, (manifest contentment) and blaze on 😎 ⭕️🐠
*Officially* a certified yoga instructor!
This practice has taught me so much, and I’m so grateful to be sharing it with others
I look back to my first class years ago (big shoutout to @jambo_lab & @camimelonz for dragging me), and I was super intimidated: everyone seemed so in shape/flexible/calm/collected/etc., and I felt completely out of place. I was certain that by minute 10 I would be passed out in a puddle of sweat in that 100 degree room. It seemed like a very ~me~ way to go.
But that didn’t happen. By minute 10, I had let go of the external and shifted my focus inward. I began to forgive, adjust, and appreciate my body for all that it was able to accomplish right then and there. I was exactly where I was meant to be.
Fast forward five years, and I still feel like a beginner - even when sitting in front of a class. I kinda hope this feeling never goes away. It keeps me curious and reminds me to check-in with my body, beliefs, and previously understood limits.
I could keep going on, but I’ll stop for now haha. If you have any questions about yoga or anything else, feel free to reach out!
Oh and big shoutout to my rad teachers @caseymc4 and @amanda.kriebel. They’re dope and probs have something to say about this attempt at a wheel pose but ayeee I got up for the first time this week so holla! Super grateful for them and my classmates through this process.
Ok that’s for real all for now, love y’all 🤙🏻 #yoga#boysofyoga#ryt200#yogateachertraining#wheelpose
