AWARENESS - RAISING
We come from a town where we grew watching cows and buffaloes, herd of goats, etc and could be seen crossing roads or roam freely. Today where every land and the small towns are getting urbanised we don’t get to see these animals often. Definitely not with the kids of this generation. And so this winter when we were on a mini vacay to countryside, we found Aarnah in total amazement on finding goats, cows, buffaloes, sheep and dogs roaming freely on streets. It didn’t take even a second for her to approach and get friendly with them. She didn’t hesitate at all or afraid for that matter on seeing them live. We appreciated & encouraged her to get playful with them and know that they are more than ‘just animals.” Never before had she got so close to a barking pet, she didn’t step backwards or got feared of the dog, instead she chose to pat and calmed her down, and just like that they were friends. It all came so naturally to her. It is really important for the child to know that this world belongs to them as much as it is to us. And it totally depends on us on how we introduce these beautiful creatures to them. I have briefed down a few points on its significance and value and what can we do about it - 🐄 Do not let the word ANIMAL scare the child - When you spot a stray or a pet somewhere, try not tell your child, “Be careful there is a dog.” Or “come to Mumma, it may bite you.” This will only develop fear in the young brain. 🐮 Kids tend to chase dogs/cats, out of curiosity, “what is it, why does it look like that, where has it come from?” Etc which is very normal, answer these questions patiently & politely, explain to them that they too have a home, belong to a certain territory and got its own habitat and food chain. 🐈 Making young minds aware of the animals and it’s surrounding helps building empathy and compassion in them. Need for their space, basic needs such as food & shelter should be understood by the child.. in turn which helps them with social-emotional development.
🐇 Venture outside often. Take your child to nearby farm or zoo or a wildlife sanctuary. Encourage their questions and curiosity. (Contd in comments. . .)🔽🔽
F.E.A.R. has two meanings-
1: Forget Everything And Run
2: Face Everything And Rise
The choice is yours.
For a brief moment, as I snapped this picture, my heart was a little sad watching her get ready for her first High School formal without being accompanied by someone besides her dad.
At 13 she came to us and said she didn’t want to talk about a boyfriend till age 15. She made a commitment to herself and she has kept it.
As I watched her add the finishing touches to her already beautiful face, I was taken back at how solid this girl of mine is. She’s leaps and bounds ahead of me at that age. She finds her worth in Christ, her comfort in Holy Spirit and her community in friendships that lift each other up, not compare or tear each other down. She goes against the normal to honor her covenant to God, commitments to others and to keep the promises she’s made to herself.
I could say it’s good parenting, our choice to homeschool or the church environment, but to deny that she has maturity and wisdom beyond her years would be unfair in painting the picture of her strength. She has put in the hard work of self awareness and confrontation. She regularly ask Jesus to search her heart and responses when He speaks.
Here is the truth: I learn so much more from her then she does from me. Being her mom is my greatest challenge and biggest reward. I am so proud of you @rileyann_1
After what can only be described as a fairly delicious family and good food filled weekend, I am feeling refreshed and ready for this new week.
What better way to start the week off than with a Festive Fast Five from the gorgeous Caroline Fleming. Link to the blog is in my bio, I hope you enjoy it!
Most people today are told to feel good about themselves to feel proud and comfortable to be as they are. This is nothing wrong per say but with context. What this does is creates a limiting belief of delusion within oneself that they are perfectly fine as they are and this stops any chance of them growing as individuals. You need to realise that you have amazing potential within you, and therefore no! You should not have the feeling of complete comfortability with what you are today because you are giving up on a future you that could be so much more! You have so much potential to do so much, don't wait for others to tell you that, understand this yourself and be your own critic be your own fuel to drive yourself to greater things!
